The title track was one of Motown's grittiest singles ever, but it
didn't put Brenda Holloway into the spotlight she deserved. Her sound
and style were so gospel-tinged and powerful that she was out of place
on a label that wanted more polished, sophisticated material. This album
had some marvelous classics and stands as Holloway's finest. While
Motown had many other superb soul artists, Holloway may have been one
who'd have done better at Stax or any of the Southern outlets who
specialized in rawer, "deep" country and gospel-tinged productions.
