John Morales Presents Teddy Pendergrass - The Voice - Remixed With Philly Love / 2CD / 2022
BBE Music presents a brand new album celebrating one of Philadelphia soul music's most iconic figures, Teddy Pendergrass, remixed by pioneering producer and engineer, John Morales. This exploration of 1970s Philly soul at its apex focuses on one of the era's defining voices, Theodore DeReese Pendergrass. Born in Philadelphia in 1950, Pendergrass sang church music at age two, and was ordained a minister at ten years old. Having learned drums and played in local bands during his teens, at 20 he was hired as a drummer for the Blue Notes by group leader Harold Melvin. After being spotted singing along onstage, he was soon appointed lead singer, and the rest is history. The masterful, revealing remix work of John Morales affords these classic songs improved clarity, allowing each individual player more space to be heard and modernising the recordings without ever losing sight of the original spirit. The virtuoso quality of the songwriting, production, arrangements and performances shine forth anew, and so do some of the music's subtler qualities and nuanced, sometimes conflicted, subtexts that might have been overlooked in the most conventional view of Pendergrass in his prime.Curated authoritatively, remixed with love and passion, John Morales' collection revisits our relationship with Teddy's and Gamble & Huff's music as compellingly and immersively as when it was new. Teddy's timeless force resides equally in his talent for portraying truthfully the joys and hurts, beliefs and doubts, blessings and challenges of our lives, and in the bravery of confronting them all with an honesty that is still utterly extraordinary.

Debarge - Time Will Reveal: The Complete Motown Albums / 3CD / 2011
The DeBarge family--brothers El, Randy, Mark and James, and sister Bunny--signed to Motown and released their first album in 1981, kicking off an intense four years where they rose to the top of the charts with timeless ballads and classic dance tracks. Time Will Reveal: The Complete Motown Albums collects the group's four out-of-print albums on two CDs, restoring them to the marketplace for the first time in years, while adding a bonus third disc of remixes and unreleased versions. Among the many highlights are the No. 1 hits "Rhythm Of The Night," in its original and extended remixed version; "All This Love," from the same-titled album as well in a newly discovered alternate version; and the set's title song, sounding better than ever in a previously unheard, long version.
DeBarge, led by El's instantly recognizable falsetto voice, were renowned for their infectious melodies and memorable hooks in gorgeous-sounding productions. Motown saw them as heir apparent to the Jackson 5, another family dynasty that had left the label in the mid-'70s. But unlike the Jacksons, the DeBarges were given free rein to write, produce and arrange their own material.
After a debut album that showed promise but not much in sales, their second LP, All This Love, went gold. In A Special Way, which included "Time Will Reveal," their first top 20 pop hit, and "Love Me In A Special Way," featuring a harmonica solo by label mate Stevie Wonder, followed. The album also included "A Dream" and "Stay With Me," which have become better known as samples in several hip-hop classics, from "One More Chance/Stay With Me" by Notorious B.I.G and Faith Evans to Mariah Carey's "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time." As a special bonus, this 3-CD set includes instrumental versions of the original DeBarge tracks.
With Rhythm Of The Night and its title hit song, DeBarge leapt into the pop mainstream. Two other songs from the album, "You Wear It Well" and "The Heart is Not So Smart," were dance hits; their rare "M+M" remixes are included on the bonus disc.
The accompanying booklet includes reproductions of the original album artwork, track annotations and a career overview by Gail Mitchell, Senior Editor of R&B/Hip-Hop for Billboard, who was seen on-screen as a commentator in the celebrated DeBarge episode of TVOne's Unsung.

Irene Cara: Fame singer and actress dies aged 63 / R.I.P.
Fame and Flashdance singer Irene Cara has died at the age of 63.
The American singer and actress was best known for her title track in the 1980 film Fame, as well as co-writing and singing the smash hit Flashdance... What a Feeling, for which she won an Oscar and a Grammy.
She later starred in films opposite Clint Eastwood and Tatum O'Neal.
Cara's publicist, who announced her death, said she died at home in Florida but the cause is "currently unknown".
Born in 1959 in the Bronx, New York City, Cara was the youngest of five children and started her career on Spanish-language TV. Her father was Puerto Rican and her mother, Cuban-American.
Having recorded music as a child, both in Spanish and English, she went on to appear in a number of on-and-off Broadway musicals.
But it was in 1980 that Cara shot to fame when she bagged the role of Coco Hernandez - and sang Fame's title track.
Her performance earned her a Best Actress nomination at the 1981 Golden Globe Awards.
Cara later co-wrote and sang the vocals for Flashdance… What A Feeling, from the 1983 blockbuster Flashdance, and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Flashdance went on to become the third-highest-grossing film of 1983.
Judith A Moose, Cara's publicist, praised her as a "beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films".
She also said Cara had been working on forthcoming projects when she died, which she and the singer's manager now plan to finish.
"She'd want that," Ms Moose said of her client via her official Twitter page.
