During
the '70s Robert Byron Wright was employed as an independent writer and
producer by Maurice White and his Kalimba Productions. At this time he
co-wrote songs for The Emotions and Deniece Williams and also wrote and
produced all the albums of The Pockets together with Verdine White of
Earth Wind & Fire. In 1980 he joined RCA as an in-house R&B
producer, becoming vice-president of A&R in 1983. Here he wrote
and/or produced for Glenn Jones (hit: "I Am Somebody"), The Jones Girls,
Fonzi Thornton, Pleasure and Genobia Jeter, among many others. In 1985
he wrote and produced the R&B hits "Fall Down" and "In The Morning
Time" for Tramaine Hawkins, after which he developed cancer and died in
1987.
