Joe Simon's second album predated his big soul hits, but contained superb vocals and some wonderful country-tinged numbers. His voice was as smooth as glass and had the perfect mix of down-home wit and intensity. He glided through his lyrics, never screaming or wailing, yet still turning ballads into expressive triumphs and caressing the groove while punctuating the lyrics on the uptempo numbers.
