Lovers is the debut studio album by American R&B singer-songwriter and musician Babyface. It was originally released on October 7, 1986, while he was taking a break from his band the Deele. Album charted number 28 on the Soul Album Charts. The album was reissued in 1989 under Epic Records with a different front cover[3] after the success of his second album Tender Lover.
On his first album, Babyface sings with just enough earnestness to be
soulful and just enough sophistication and slickness to avoid sounding
too much like a throwback. [The 2001 CD reissue adds historical liner
notes and three bonus tracks: a "Free Style Mix" of "Mary Mack," a "Jazz
Lover's Mix" of "Lovers," and a 12" version of "If We Try."]
