Flirt 1988

 Flirt is the ninth album by the American R&B singer Evelyn "Champagne" King, released in 1988 on the EMI-Manhattan label. It was produced by Leon Sylvers III, Teneen Ali, Ron "Have Mercy" Kersey, Alex Brown, Wah Wah Watson, Evan Rogers, and Carl Sturken. 

 The album peaked at #20 on the R&B albums chart. It also reached #192 on the US Billboard 200. It produced the hit singles "Flirt", "Hold On to What You've Got" and "Kisses Don't Lie". 

 King's debut EMI album marked an artistically lackluster point in her career. The single releases were well chosen, resulting in Top Ten R&B hits in the title track and "Hold on to What You've Got." But the rest is mainly disposable and fails to live up to the standards set by earlier albums. The title cut is slightly catchy, but its insipid arrangement and overall sterility are tiring, while tracks like "Stop It" and "You Can Turn Me On" are finished before they start. King possesses a fiery, soulful voice that deserves far better material, and the fact that she can't seem to rise above the empty cliches here suggests that she was not into the songs on Flirt either.
