Carl Carlton – The Bad C.C. (1982)
Carl Carlton's follow-up to his gold self-titled LP (which included "She's a Bad Mama Jama") was mostly produced by David Rubinson and Narada Michael Walden with the focus being squarely on the funk. A pulsating cover of The Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Loving" was a Top 20 R&B hit. Its feel is similar to Billy Ocean's "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going." In the late 90s, it became a popular MP3 file and was issued on the 1999 German CD Party Fox, Vol. 2. Other standouts were "Everyone Can Be a Star," the tender ballad "Fooled Myself Again," the funk/dance favorite "Sweet That Sexy Thang," and an ultra-funky cover of The Rascals' "Groovin'" which should have been a single.
