This
1988 offering from Jean Carne showcases her fabulous singing, as soft
and changeable as shot silk, and as beautiful. If anything she is better
heard and seen at the same time, so her commitment can be seen. Her
live video with Dexter Wansel, Bunny Sigler and Billy Paul is amazing
... but this disc captures her voice in a very 80s setting, with
laid-back vibes and a gliding vocal style that shows her to be closer
than close to the material. Highlights include Break Up To Make Up,
Flame of Love, the title track and Ain't No Way, but every track has a
special expressive force. There's also a great song with a slow bouncing
bass called Don't Want To Love Any More - the soul of it is just so
transparently there.
