Happy Love is an album by American singer Natalie Cole.[2] Released on July 18, 1981, it was her final album on Capitol Records. The album reached peak positions of number 132 on the Billboard 200 and number 37 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
This album should have been called "UNhappy Love," where most of the material is heartwrenching ("Nothin' But A Fool") and unconvincing. At this point in her career, she was no longer a household name due to her struggles with drug addiction and Capitol took their last chance with her by releasing this album and dropping her after lackluster sales. Oddly, a song entitled "Sounds Of A Happy Love" appears on her 1997 "Anthology," but it is not included here on "Happy Love." Maybe she wasn't crazy about the song. It's really not that good, but not much here is either. While it's listenable, it's also lacking. Sadly, the first single, "You Were Right, Girl," had all the makings of a second big Pop song, but failed miserably at Radio and Retail. After a signing with Epic for another failed album, she would start to rebound in 1985 with "Dangerous" on the Atlantic label and REALLY come back in 1987 with the gold and newly sober "Everlasting" album.
