Excellent obscure and overlooked , socially conscious British soul from
Liverpool. Real Thing charted with smooth soul numbers, and this LP
contains several slick numbers in the similar vein. Singer Chris Amoo
has an excellent smoky sound, British accent lending the vocals an
unique mood. The highlights are “Plastic Man” and the long “Liverpool
Medley” - the former is a biting comment on hypocrisy, while the latter
is a bleak story of ghetto life in Liverpool 8, with honest and rough
lyrics but a glimmer of hope. Arrangements are imaginative, sound
spot-on timeless acoustic funk-soul with strings adding sweetness, and
playing as tight as on any best US sould albums from this era.
